Anastasios Xepapadeas is currently a Professor of Economics in the Department of International and European Economic Studies at Athens University of Economics and Business and in the Department of Economics at the University of Bologna (part-time with parallel affiliation). In May 2018 he was elected a foreign associate of the US National Academy of Sciences. He has served as Dean of the School of Economic Sciences of Athens University of Economics and Business and as Chair of the Department of International and European Economic Studies at the same university. He is past president of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists and past Chair of the Board of Directors of the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. He served as editor of the journal Environment and Development Economics from 2005-2014 and is now a member of the editorial board.

He is currently co-editor of Environmental and Resource Economics, a member of the editorial committee of the Annual Review of Resource Economics, and associate editor of Dynamic Games and Applications. He has also served as co-editor of the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management.

He has published more than 135 papers in leading journals and collective volumes including the American Economic Review; European Economic Review; Environmental and Resource Economics; Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists; Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control; Journal of Economic Geography; Journal of Environmental Economics and Management; Journal of Mathematical Economics; Journal of Public Economics; Journal of Risk and Uncertainty; Scandinavian Journal of Economics; Science; and Water Resources Research. He has written or edited nine books.  According to Google Scholar he has more than 6300 citations (February 2019).

He has participated as coordinator or lead researcher in more than 35 research programs funded by the EU, the Greek government, or private sources in the area of environmental and resource economics. His current research interests include spatiotemporal analysis in economics; the economics of climate change; environmental policy; uncertainty, ambiguity and robust control.
