Pavlopoulos Charalampos (Harry)
Charalampos (Harry) Pavlopoulos, Associate Professor of Statistics. Born in Pyrgos Ilias, Greece, October 1963. Recieved his B.Sc. degree in Mathematics from the University of Patras, Greece (1985), and subsequently his M.A. (1988) and Ph.D. (1991) degrees in Statistics from the University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland, USA, where he also held a full time Graduate Assistant's appointment with teaching duties (1985-1991). Throughout the course of his university studies he held a John S. Latsis Foundation scholarship, as well as titles in recognition of academic excellence by the Greek State Scholarship Foundation (IKY). After a year of military service in the Hellenic Air Force (1992-1993), he held an Adjunct Lecturer's appointment in the Mathematics Department, University of the Aegean, Samos, Greece (1993-1995). He has been a full time appointed faculty member of the Statistics Department in AUEB since 1994, tenured since 2004. He has convened the international conference on "Environmetrics and Statistics in the Earth and Space Sciences" (ESESS), held in AUEB (August 23-27, 1999) and special invited sessions in several other international conferences. During 2004-2008 he served as Associate Editor in the editorial board of the scientific research journal "Environmetrics". During 2011-2013 he served as appointed Chairman of the Committee on Probability and Statistics in the Physical Sciences, C(PS)2 of the Bernoulli Society. He has collaborated with several research institutes and universities in Europe and in the USA, appointed as Visiting Research Associate. He has published several articles in peer reviewed journals, reflecting and advancing his research interests on stochastic modelling of rainfall processes, scaling statistical properties of spatio-temporal rainfall fields, time series models, spatial and environmental statistics. He is a member of the American Statistical Association (since 1991), Bernoulli Society (since 1996), The International Environmetrics Society (since 1997), Hellenic Statistical Institute (since 1992).
