Zanias Georgios
George P. Zanias is a Professor of Economics at the Department of International and European Economic Studies of the Athens University of Economics and Business. He has served as the Chairman of this Department during 1996-1998 and 2004-2008.
He has studied economics at the Athens University of Economics and Business (B.Sc.), the University of Reading (M.Sc.) and the University of Oxford (Ph.D./D.Phil.). He was Associate Professor of applied econometrics at the Agricultural University of Athens as well as Assistant Professor at the University of Crete and Lecturer at the University of Oxford.
He is the author of a number of scientific articles published in international referred journals and volumes of collected articles by international publishers. His scientific interest concentrates on applied econometrics, the analysis of the Greek and the European economy, international development.
He has served in the following public positions: Minister of Finance, Chairman of the National Bank of Greece, Chairman of the Hellenic Banking Association, Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors. He has been used as an expert by the United Nations, the World Bank and the European Commission. For a number of years he was an op-ed contributor to the financial section of the newspaper To Vima.
