International Cooperation of MSc in HRM with School of Labor and Employment Relations Pennsylvania State University
The Graduate Program in Human Resource Management (HRM) of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB), in the context of its commitment to extroversion, internationalization and offering high-quality studies to its students, carries out an ad hoc educational program, in collaboration with the School of Labor and Employment Relations of the Pennsylvania State University (USA).Το Πρόγραμμα Μεταπτυχιακών Σπουδών (ΠΜΣ) στη Διοίκηση Ανθρώπινου Δυναμικού (ΔΑΔ) του Οικονομικού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών (ΟΠΑ) , στο πλαίσιο της δέσμευσής του για εξωστρέφεια, διεθνοποίηση και προσφορά υψηλής ποιότητας σπουδών στους φοιτητές και τις φοιτητές του, πραγματοποιεί ad hoc εκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα, σε συνεργασία με το School of Labor and Employment Relations του Pennsylvania State University (ΗΠΑ).
Pennsylvania State University was founded in 1855 and today is frequently ranked among the top 30 research universities as well as in the top 6% of universities worldwide (QS World University Rankings, 2024).
The cooperation of the 2 institutions aims at the development of (i) "Cultural Intelligence" through the lectures but also the interactions, discussions and cooperation of the students of the two universities and (ii) important skills such as cross- cultural communication and cultural awareness, and (iii) knowledge regarding international Human Resource Management practices.
In the framework of the program, which was co-organized by the Director of the Graduate program in HRM AUEB Professor Maria Vakola and Dr. Dorothea Roubi, LER Alumni Endowed Early Career Professor and Assistant Professor of Human Resource Management at Penn State University, online lectures were already held, which dealt with a wide range of topics such as understanding culture and its dimensions, comparing the culture of Greece and the USA, the comparison of the two countries in terms of Human Resources Management practices, diversity management (Diversity, Equality, Inclusion, and Belonging) in the two countries, the main characteristics of labor law, and the role of labor relations and labor unions in the two countries.
The lectures were held by the invited lecturers Dr. Andri Georgiadou (Associate Professor, Nottingham University Business School, UK) and Mrs. Eirini Psyrra (Vice President, Head of HR Strategy & Enablement, Office of the CHRO, Johnson & Johnson, USA) and the invited speaker Dr. Rakoon Piyanontalee (Assistant Research Professor, Center for International Human Resource Studies, Penn State University, USA). The dimension of the worker in the USA was also conveyed by Greeks who work there in the field of HRM.
The next stop of the cooperation is the two-day educational visit of the students of the School of Labor and Employment Relations of the Pennsylvania State University to Greece, in May. Students of the two institutions will have the opportunity to collaborate and participate in a competition based on a case study on Human Resource Management.
